"Dales Digital Illustation Techniques" |
| * Just a quick FYI before you read on - I don't teach Vector Graphics, which is often used in logo design work. I learned to use Illustator in one weekend and just enough to render Kathy's sign for the sign company. The work I do is highly detailed illustration. Some shown below were 6ft x 9ft wallpaper murals that hang on walls like wallpaper. |

Digital is the wave of the future. The ability to move subjects around in a painting, alter colors, shapes and sizes to suit clients' needs, and the fact that the final image is already "print-ready" will put any professional artist at the head of his/her game - simply based on customer convenience and versatility alone.
My students will watch me work from beginning to end. They'll see exactly how to start a painting and how I utilize as many different digital techniques as I can in the most unconventional ways to achieve the effects I need while still maintaining the ability to adjust my images to clients' needs. You can learn basic Photoshop stuff from books, any website tutorial, or just by playing around with digital imaging programs. But no one on the web that I have seen uses the techniques I've created that I use daily in my business in any way near the ways that I use them to get the effects I get. I'll show my students "when" and "where" to use an effect, or a certain layer style. They won't learn how to make "neat effects" with text. They'll learn how to use those effects to make their superhero's armor look like metal, or their dragon's eyes to look like a jewel, or their dinosaur skin to show reptilian scales. They'll learn to open their minds and think outside the box to make their illustrations look more real. With the consepts I teach, my students can venture forth with a new understanding of digital illustation and apply any new Photoshop tick they learn on the web in entirely new ways. My classes will start at $45 per person for a 2 hour lesson. But just to warn you, that lesson could go over that time limit if I don't get everything across to my students. You may not want to schedule an activity immediately afterwards and you may have to wait til we're done if you want your child to get as much as s/he can from this lesson. But trust me, no student will walk away without taking a whole new understanding of this medium with them. These are all digital illustrations I was commissioned to do.
